Who's Pepie?

Pepie is the sea creature who inhabits beautiful Lake Pepin along the border of Wisconsin and Minnesota.  Lake Pepin is a wide spot in the Mississippi River about 22 miles long, 2 miles wide, and 70 feet deep.  Pepie was first reported in a newspaper in 1871, but had long been known by the local Dakota population.  No one is sure what Pepie is; some have suggested that Pepie is a giant catfish or some relative of the Loch Ness monster.

What is known about Pepie is that she loves biking and has been be seen on moonlit nights cycling along Wisconsin highway 35.  We can only presume that Pepie appreciates the wide shoulders, gentle hills, and beautiful vistas of the lake road.  Or could it be the local shops, bakeries, charming villages, and delightful restaurants that spring up along the way?

In any case, if you ever see her, be careful not to ask about Pepie's Pedals- she'll talk your ear off!

Here's a link to some folks who are trying to get a peek at Pepie.  Just don't tell them where she gets her bike fixed- they'll be all over the place!
